ASE Team Working Update

ASE Team Working Update

Since the world was affected by the global pandemic, working environments have changed; not least our personal workplaces, where our ways of working have evolved faster than ever before. Remote working is becoming much more commonplace in all industries.

Here at ASE however, we have been using remote working practices ever since we began, predating the current uptake in homeworking by rather a lot of years! We combine the inputs from colleagues who prefer to work within the office and colleagues who find it convenient to work from their home locations to create highly effective team projects. We have long recognised that integral to any team based working groups are both ease of communication and having a clear combined strategy. Whether it's sharing ideas, bouncing emails, having one-on-one or group discussions; the key requisite is having the facilities to continue working from almost any place you wish. This is what we see as a future ideal in the modern team environment; it's how it has always been and will be at Applied Software Engineering Ltd.

Finding your Work Solution

ASE operates as an embedded software and hardware development organisation; we create software applications & hardware platforms for a deliberately wide range of clients and target environments. Having this mindset allows us to put our engineer hats on and find solutions or new ways of thinking that are both innovative and successful.

Here are just some of the advantages we gain by following this model of working:

  • Flexibility
  • Environment Custom to Individual Needs
  • No Commuting / No Traffic / No Crowds
  • Comfort!
  • Excellent work/life balance: out people and our people's families matter
  • Focus on Work Goals

Having a flexible routine has to be the number one benefit! Yes we have to turn up for video meetings, but we are otherwise free to alter our work schedule to suit our individual circumstances. Most of us have our own (more or less) regular hours and daily routine; though we have some definite "morning people" and some who would rather sleep in and work into the evening . Doing the school run isn't an issue!

We each arrange our environment to suit our needs; from the noise levels to workspace ergonomics (no arguments about radio on or radio off, or about who gets to sit near the heating!)

There is no commuting, no traffic, no crowds of pedestrians on the route to work; just each of us working in the environment in which we are most comfortable and therefore most productive. Being able to wear comfortable clothes is great, (we do wear clothes, at least for the video conferences) and we don't miss the time that would be spent ironing our work shirts.

Applied Software Engineering Ltd of course relies heavily on communication, we all, including the senior management, have an "open door" to calls, emails, video conferences and text chats, so that all our development teams communicate freely, and yes, sometimes, people just need to talk about non-work stuff, and that's fine; we're people; we listen to each other; we support each other; we succeed together.

We are close together, even when we are working many miles apart!
